Ways to Volunteer with UWOC
-
Community Outreach
Community is so important and how we reach them is important as well. We have different ways of impacting our community: tabling, canvassing, and advocating in all spaces. We want to amplify and bring light to specific causes that align with our mission and vision.
-
Voter Registration
Voting empowers individuals to create positive change in their community. The more we vote, the stronger our voices become. This is why we are looking for individuals who understand the power of voting and can enable others to become active voters.
-
Legislative Post Card Prep
It’s important to stay informed and spread that information amongst your community. Folks do not have the save access and privilege to education and information as others. We hope to make legislative issues in Alabama more transparent and do so by composing and mailing postcards that contains these facts.
-
Phone Banking
This is another way UWOC is able to inform the community of issues that directly (and indirectly) affect them. We want the community to know that we are a resource and here to support. Phone banking is one of the ways we connect with the community and let them know there is an actual person on the other end of the line that cares.
-
Social Media Campaigning
We understand and recognize that everyone has different ways of showing support. It can range from attending a tabling event to reposting our social media posts. Social media as a volunteering opportunity gives us the ability to reach diverse audiences and touch our online community.
“For me, UWOC continues to be an effective mechanism for serving our community, and for learning and personal growth.”

“I joined United Women of Color last year during the election season. Their voter and community outreach work caught my attention and I jumped at the opportunity to volunteer. I am thankful to have connected with such an amazing organization, and I look forward to continuing as a volunteer.”
