Civics Book Club
The purpose of the Civics book club is fourfold. The first goal is to empower women and others civically to increase the number of candidates for public office. Second, we aim to educate civically for modern day times in Alabama. Third, we hope to enlighten ourselves and each other about racial equity issues as it relates to US history, economics, politics, society, and culture. Finally, we open the door to explore white fragility, how to be an ally, and foster genuine BIPOC and white ally/advocate relationships.
Vote Gone Viral
As a diverse 501(c)(3) organization, United Women of Color create and foster opportunities of advancement and empowerment. We build and shape the development of our communities by cultivating civic engagement, grassroots outreach to improve the lives of women, girls and families. Vote Gone Viral actively engages in providing voter services, voter education, and leadership training to increase civic engagement and voter turnout.

Beyond the Rhetoric Candidate Forums
An important aspect of civic engagement and social justice is being informed and up to date on the issues in our local community. UWOC hosts up to four events per year where guests are invited to discuss topics that affect the day-to-day life of minority populations. such as:
Health disparities in African American and Latina communities,
Economic and educational opportunities for financial uplifting and reducing the wealth gap,
Importance of voting and civic engagement,
The nature of societal relationships between law enforcement and minorities, and
Fostering cultural awareness and acceptance to dismantle white supremacy.
Town Halls
Beyond the Rhetoric Community Conversations discuss policies and legislative actions which affect our day to day life. We provide resources about these topics to assist the general public in being informed and actively respond and offer workable solutions to the topics.
Candidate Forums
Our candidate forums are collaborative, in partnership with other organizations with an interest in civic engagement. Including questions from area residents, these forums allow the community an opportunity to engage political candidates in a discussion about issues important to voters before an upcoming election.
Bridge Crossing Reenactment
This is a reenactment of the peaceful protest led by Martin Luther King Jr, which resulted from the "Bloody Sunday" event led by John Lewis and led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 by then president Lyndon Baines Johnson.
Alabama's primary occurs the following Tuesday and with its many local colleges and universities, Huntsville is a great place for such an event. This community-wide event is free to the public and will focus on voting rights, the importance of voting. It is an opportunity for those who can't travel to Selma to show their solidarity and participate locally.
Vote Gone Viral
Our civic duty doesn't end at the ballot box. Since 2018, UWOC has actively engaged in providing voter services, voter education, and leadership training to increase civic engagement, voter turnout, and community participation in shaping public policy and quality of life issues.

Equal Justice Initiative Trip
September Community Trip to EJI/Montgomery
In order to heal, we must confront. In order to confront, we must first be exposed. As we promote harmony amongst diverse populations, we host trips to Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) Museum. After experiencing the museum together, we participate in a facilitation debrief with our peers in order to process our experiences.

We Work with Like-Minded Organizations
*UWOC is the fiscal sponsor of Madison County Remembrance Project.
United Women of Color partners and collaborates with likeminded organizations who advocate, educate, and empower people in marginalized populations.
